Two Upcoming City Council Candidate Forums

District City Council members Joe Hultquist (1st), Barbara Pelot (2nd), Steve Hall (3rd) and Rob Frost (4th) are ineligible to run for new terms. Bob Booker (6th, who was appointed this year to replace Mark Brown) has chosen not to. Knoxville’s six City Council districts will be electing new representation in the November election. More close at hand, though, is the primary, for which early voting begins on Sept. 2 and ends Sept. 17, with election day on Sept. 22. Of course, only districts 2, 3, and 6 have more than two candidates on the ballot. Still, even for those who live outside of those districts, it doesn’t hurt to get acquainted with the candidates early, and this week and next, you’ll have two opportunities. The first, a forum sponsored by the South Knoxville neighborhood association, will deal only with 1st District candidates Robert Marlino and Nick Pavlis, on Thursday August 20, at 7:30 p.m. at Ijams Nature Center, 2915 Island Home Dr. The second forum, organized by Hubert Smith and to which all candidates have been invited, will be held on Thursday August 27, at 7 p.m. in the Main Assembly Room of the City County Building. (This one will also be broadcast live on CTV, 8-9:30 p.m., and be streamed live at ctvknox.org.)
