The Most Puzzling Political Development This Week

The most puzzling political development this week?

A.J. McCall is running for the state senate over in Wilson County as a Republican. He has a fund-raiser with a host committee that includes Republican state representatives: Beth Harwell, David Hawk, Bob Ramsey, Jim Coley, Brian Kelsey and Joey Hensley. McCall previously ran for a House seat and lost.

But state Rep. Susan Lynn is also running for the same senate seat; she announced this week. These are all her House colleagues. She is a committee chair. She is a conservative. It’s a Republican primary. McCall has, however, been a major contributor to Republican political campaigns.

The seat is being vacated by state Sen. Mae Beavers, who is running for Wilson County Mayor.
