Best Beer Selection Runners-Up: Downtown Grill & Brewery, Preservation Pub, Union Jack’s

In terms of selection, Barley’s Taproom & Pizzeria obliterates the competition with sheer mathematics. Unless you’re brewing it yourself, there’s hardly any good beer you can find elsewhere but not at Barley’s. Even we haven’t tried them all. Maybe it’s what you’d expect from a place named after a principle ingredient in beer. Originally founded as a spinoff from the well-known Asheville institution of the same name, our Barley’s has been locally owned for several years now. They also won Best Bar, though, a very big category, and we’re not sure beer selection was the only factor there. It’s a big place with a pool hall upstairs and a restaurant/nightclub downstairs with a stage frequently trod by nationally known performers. And great pizza.
