At your first “School of Hard Knox” bout Feb. 20, you KO’d CT Turner with a rear leg kick to the chin at 2:36 in the first round. Can you ever top that?
I’m hoping I can. It’ll be good if I can get anther KO—if not like that, better.
You live and train in Knoxville. Does it make a difference to fight on home turf?
It makes a big difference. You train a lot harder for the fights that are at home than away. What your friends do is go around hyping you up—it puts a lot of pressure on you.
Is pressure good or bad?
I do well under pressure. If the other fighter’s good, he’ll be like, “I’m gonna embarrass him in front of his crowd.” You’ve got a lot more to lose.
Where do you train, or is that a secret?
No secret. I train at the Knoxville Martial Arts Academy in Farragut, in the YMCA
What do you like about MMA?
I’m always a competitor. I love football, wrestling, and track—that’s what I did in high school. I just love the competition itself and whatnot. MMA kind of pushes you to the limits. I love something that when I get through, it’s like, “Man, that was hard.”
At 26, are you young or old for MMA?
I’m just kind of in between young and in the middle. Some fighters are good and they’re 40.
Will you still fight at 40?
I don’t know about that. I do want to do it for the next couple years. I figure since I’m pretty good, I ought to see how far it takes me.
St. Preux will face Ombey Mobley in Xtreme Fighting Championships (XFC) 8 on April 25 at Thompson-Boling Arena and broadcast live on HDNet.
