Stephaniesid are an Asheville-based outfit fronted by vibrant chanteuse Stephanie Morgan; their intoxicating admixture of dreamy rock and cabaret-style pop is best heard on their latest release, 2007’s Grus Americanus (Nine Mile Records). The band’s five members all pitch in with what they’re listening to right now.
Benji Hughes, A Love Extreme (New West, 2008)
Benji is from Charlotte but lives in L.A. He’ll be playing a show with us in Asheville on Nov. 8 and writes the catchiest dance songs I’ve ever heard. And he also has slower, more introspective stuff on the same record. All works together. (Stephanie Morgan, vocals and keyboards)
Claude Debussy, Solo Piano Music, Vol. 1
It keeps me feeling dreamy after doing yoga. (Chuck Lichtenberger, vocals and keyboards)
Delta Spirit, Ode to Sunshine (Rounder, 2008)
Ode to Sunshine is a great record. I wish I could make a trash can sound as good as they do on their song “Trashcan.” And “People Turn Around” will be a classic. (Michael Libramento, guitar)
Nick Drake, Bryter Layter (Island, 1970)
It really fits my mood right now. (Krum, drums)
Led Zeppelin, Houses of the Holy (Atlantic, 1973)
I love the guitar and drum tones. And it just b-r-gh-in’ rocks! (Jar-e, vocals, trombone, melodica)
