James Otto is part of the MuzikMafia, the loose confederacy of maverick Nashville musicians that includes Big & Rich, Cowboy Troy, and Gretchen Wilson. Otto’s recent album, Sunset Man, bridges contemporary country, Southern rock, and a little bit of soul. The first single from the disc, “Just Got Started Lovin’ You,” topped the country charts in May.
Shannon Lawson
Chase the Sun (MCA, 2002)
This is in the CD player in my car right now. He’s one of my MuzikMafia brothers. I like it because it’s freaking brilliant. He’s an amazing talent, one of the best singers in the business.
Lady Antebellum
Lady Antebellum (Capitol, 2008)
I’m liking this quite a bit. I really love the single they have on the radio, “Love Don’t Live Here.”
Ray Charles
Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music (ABC, 1962)
I’m always listening to old stuff. That’s generally what occupies my CD player.
The Beatles
Abbey Road (Capitol, 1969)
That’s one of my all-time favorite records. It’s good that you can always go back and listen to The Beatles. They’re always a source of inspiration.
