The Bijou Theatre will celebrate its 100th anniversary early next year with the unveiling of a new marquee and vertical sign and a series of concerts and events during the last week of January. The Light Up the Bijou campaign, already underway, offers 488 individual LED bulbs in the new signs for $25 each; donors will be listed on the Bijou’s website (knoxbijou.com) and on a plaque at the theater. The signs will be lit during a ceremony on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 5:30 p.m., followed by the monthly Tennessee Shines concert and radio broadcast, hosted by Jim Lauderdale.
Headliners for the Bijou 100 Year Jubilee include: the Latin ensemble Grupo Fantasma on Thursday, Jan. 29, at 8 p.m.; comedian Henry Cho on Friday, Jan. 30, at 8:20 p.m.; and singer/songwriter Dave Barnes on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 9:20 p.m. Other events, including local music, lectures, comedy, tours of the building, and a late-night screening of Psycho on Friday, will be held all four days. Tickets for individual events and a full schedule are available at jubilee.knoxbijou.com.
