The debut EP from local guitarist Kevin Hyfantis and his Bishop’s Band is a brief but thorough introduction to Hyfantis’ smooth, R&B-influenced pop-rock. The band—Hyfantis, drummer Shaun Schuetz, and bassist Nate Donegan—is in perfect sync on the five songs, which stretch from the Steely Dan-like title track and the blue-eyed soul ballad “11 Roses” to the funky jam anthem “Caroline.” The trio never shies away from demonstrating its chops, but they rely on the strength of Hyfantis’ songs and their collective swing to really show off.
