The paperwork is bad enough, but some County Commissioners were horrified to discover last week that there is a by-product of all this conflict of interest stuff: no more free golf at the county-owned Three Ridges course off Washington Pike.

Within the last two weeks Don Daughtery has been recruited to also put his name forward. Daughtery met with the executive committee last week and garnered significant support there for the post.

Delegates who show up at a party convention will elect the new chair.

Since Republicans hold a majority of the seats in county government, the current controversies over appointments and "back room deals" seem an opportunity for the Democrats to pick up some seats in next year's county elections.

Changing Channels

In Milwaukee Wade will be working for Hearst-Argyle, a media company which owns 29 television stations. The Milwaukee station is also an ABC affiliate.

During her tenure at WATE, Wade has been heavily involved in community activities, serving on the boards of several charities. The station remains No. 2 in the market, behind long-time ratings champ WBIR.

Expensive Lunch

Among the numerous hosts are Doug Horne and a fair representation of the Knoxville legal community, some of whom include: Gordon Ball , Sid Gilreath , Tony Farmer , Bruce Fox , Warren Gooch , J.D. Lee and Greg Isaacs .

Edwards, who is a trial lawyer, was the Democratic vice-presidential candidate in 2004.
