What's the #1 reason for AC failure?

Not getting them cleaned. They fill up with dirt, dust, dead bugs, and leaves. Then people run them when it's so hot out, and, of course, they burn out on the hottest day of the year. Also, people get an AC big enough for one room and try to cool the whole house with them.

What's the craziest repair you've ever made?

I was pretty young. It was in the late '50s early '60s when they still had ringer washers. The motor got burned up because these young kids would sit on the ringer and have it spin them around like it was a carousel or something. They called it a swing.

August heat always makes me think of football gearing up. How do you think UT will do this year?

About 9-3. They'll probably lose to Cal, Florida, and maybe Georgia. I tell you what, though: It's just not as fun as it used to be to beat Florida. I love to hate Spurrier.

Since you've been in the area a while, tell us what you biggest peeve and favorite thing about Knoxville is?

They're the same thing: East Tennesseans. Most don't care what you do or who you are as long as you leave them alone. Also, they'll do almost anything you ask them to, and nothing you tell them to. For example, I always take my two small dogs with me on repairs. I got called to this retirement community to look at a washing machine for a new lady. Most of the people there love the dogs. I even think they call sometimes just for the dogs, but this lady got bent out of shape and wanted to know the number for the dog catcher because I let them loose. I'm 60 years old and I stopped taking lectures a long time ago, but this woman would not let me tell her how to fix her washing machine until she lectured me about leash laws. And the best part is, I only needed to tell her to stop using so much detergent and she wouldn't have anymore problems.
