The DL on the PL

This Monday, Oct. 31, the club’s lineup delivers a clever mix of punk, indie rock, metal and—finally!—cheesy-fun party music. Here’s what Eye uncovered: For your indie pleasure, two members of The Royal Bangs plus The Tenderhooks ’ bassist will attempt to recreate Pavement ’s scrawling rock. Fans of the defunct Bloodiest Night of My Life will enjoy a semi-reunion as several members revive The Melvins ’ off-the-wall metal. In the aw-shucks category, The Rockwells drag out their Huey Lewis and the News albums for a sing-a-long. Then, get ready to holler, “Tiiin roof, rusted,” as Maxi and the Pads take on the B-52’s with a little help from WS-Burn . Fistful of Crows assume the position of L.A. punk band The Descendents. We’ve got no clue who’s stepping up for Queen or The Minutemen , but don’t you worry, my pretties, we’ll get you next year (insert wicked villain cackle here).

Somewhere along the line, weirdness erupted. As if we’d all taken a collective acid hit, the audience’s attention shifted from Dixie Dirt to a couple of mesmerizing audience members. One fellow repeatedly circled the crowd, bending each time just to the left of the stage to tie his shoe. As though on the same circuit, a girl with a pixie haircut followed 20 feet behind him. Each time she reached the front of the stage, she removed her red jacket and whipped it over her head like a helicopter. Due to her short stature, and the close-knit audience, her jacket clipped the faces of several peeved people. If the perplexing occurrence has a deeper meaning, we’ve yet to figure it out.
