Welch on Winning
Former GE exec toots his own horn, again
by Jonathan B. Frey
Jack Welch is an American icon: former CEO of General Electric, corporate superstar, management guru, in-demand public speaker, and author most recently of Winning (with his wife Suzy Welch, HarperCollins, $28). His accomplishments are impressive and well publicized: elevated to GE’s top post in 1980; became the youngest CEO in GE history; increased GE’s value more than 30-fold over his 20 years as CEO; increased GE’s revenue more than five-fold over the same period; established the largest quality initiative ever mounted in corporate America; and was named manager of the century by Fortune magazine.
