Jerry Stoneking 1942-2001
No one has been more instrumental in keeping UT's torch lit during the very difficult decade that he served as its dean of engineering than Jerry Stoneking. And his sudden death of a heart attack last Friday at age 59 couldn't have been more untimely in relation to the university's efforts to make the best of the worst of fiscal times.
"The loss of Jerry Stoneking, I can't..." and Provost Loren Crabtree breaks off his sentence at a loss for words. "His initiatives with Oak Ridge were extraordinarily important, and now I don't know where we'll be. It's amazing. We just naturally relied on Jerry for so many things. And now that he's not here, you realize how much you relied on him."
