While I appreciate Frank Cagle anointing me the "favorite" in the 2010 race for Knox County mayor in his June 10, 2009 column "Burchett's Choice," I do want to offer a bit of clarification on some other points made in his column.
There was no "closed-door" meeting of Knox County Republican legislators. The March 13 meeting was held in Nashville in the interest of allowing all our members to attend. The vote was taken exactly as has been done in the past and the media received proper notice in advance of the meeting. News Sentinel Nashville bureau chief Tom Humphrey was present and wrote a comprehensive story.
On the other hand, I'm glad to see Frank's enthusiasm about the 2010 Republican primary: "The county mayor's race next year will be a defining moment in Knox County politics and set the tone going forward. We can't wait."
I couldn't have said it better myself.
Sen. Tim Burchett, Knoxville
