Letter: Every Day Life

This is a response to Rick Humphreys ["Where To Begin..." Letters, July 12, 2012].

Get out of the bedroom. I shouldn't and don't care what your habits are behind closed doors. I don't care if you slather yourself with strawberry jam or swing from a chandelier.

Civil (HUMAN) rights are violated starting when you can't get an apartment with two guys (or an unmarried couple)—looking for a one-bedroom apartment and are refused. Asking for a hotel room with a single bed and are asked to leave. Caught holding hands and asked to leave the restaurant. Very hurtful verbal abuse. Physically beaten when leaving a gay bar, or having your car keyed, or having all four tires slashed.

These things you'll never need to fear. I live with them every day.
