Letter: Burchett Discomfort

Rachel Craig is one of the most knowledgeable, good-hearted, reasonable, active, engaged citizens I know. As was pointed out in last week's Metro Pulse ["South What?" Citybeat by Cari Wade Gervin, July 21, 2011], she also has a degree in planning. She has the long experience with planning and neighborhood issues and the diplomacy and self-awareness to work with others to arrive at a better decision.

Ragsdale's appointment of Craig showed a comfort with different points of view. It also showed a commitment to diversity and equity broadly defined and to ensuring that the metro government is composed of engaged citizens with relevant expertise. Burchett's removal of Craig from MPC makes me really uncomfortable.
