Parker Takes Point Lead: Defending AHRMA 200GP champion Jack Parker of Knoxville regained the 200GP class points lead with a win and a second place at Road America, Elkhart Lake, Wis., June 13-14 and two wins at Grattan, Mich. June 20 and 21. Riding the same 175cc Yamaha CT1-based machine in both the 200GP and 250GP classes, Parker also took a 9th and a second place in the 250 class at Road America and two wins in the larger class at Grattan. Parker now leads the 200GP points race with 6,505 points over Honda-mounted Denny Poneleit's 6,070.
Parker also now holds a slim lead in the 250GP class with 5,093 points, trailed closely by Paul Germain with 5,000. Parker had to do some last-minute wrenching to compete in Sunday's races at Road America: "I blew the crank in the 250 race on Saturday at Road America. Put in a spare motor Saturday night only to find that it hopped out of 3rd and 4th in practice Sunday morning. Scrambled and borrowed a bottom end from Carl [Anderson] during second practice and lunch and had it done 15 minutes or so before the race."
The next race weekend for Parker will be August 7-9 at Virginia International Raceway near Danville, Va. Because AHRMA is not racing at Mid-Ohio in July, the organization has made the VIR round a double-points-paying event.
Hickman Wins at Road Atlanta: Corryton's Ray Hickman, racing his 129 Race Team Suzuki "seven-eleven" ('89 GSXR750 frame stuffed with an '89 GSXR1127 motor), took wins in both the V6 Heavyweight and V7 Heavyweight classes at WERA Motorcycle Roadracing's June 28 event at Road Atlanta, Braselton, Ga. Hickman, defending champion in both classes (Mid-central and Southeast regions), now sits in third position in both V6 HW regions and is first in V7 HW (Mid-central) and second in V7 HW (Southeast).
Next up for Hickman is the WERA event at Carolina Motorsports Park at Kershaw, SC on July 18-19. Hickman's race efforts are sponsored by Mountain Motorsports, LP USA, Slide Effects Paintworks and Street & Competition.
