Vespers, according to the Catholic and Orthodox liturgical calendars, is the evening prayer service, typically observed around sunset. The Vespers are a terribly cute four-piece folk-pop band from Nashville, made up of singing sisters Callie (guitar, ukulele, banjo, bass) and Phoebe Cryar (banjo, guitar, ukulele, mandolin, accordion) and brothers Taylor (drums, mandolin) and Bruno Jones (guitar, bass). The band’s new album, The Fourth Wall, released in April, is a collection of bouncy, positive-thinking indie pop and twangy folk ballads—think a little bit of Gillian Welch and a little bit Target ad campaign—and a vaguely Christian outlook. (The Cryars’ father is ’80s contemporary Christian singer/songwriter Morgan Cryar.)
