Description: Once a year, hundreds of Knoxville's heartiest pop-culture enthusiasts get dressed up in full-on geek regalia—Star Wars and Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, superheroes, anime, horror movies, you name it— and descend on downtown Knoxville for the area's only comic book/sci-fi/movie and television convention. Comics are the center of the weekend-long event—rows and rows of them in white cardboard boxes, bagged and boarded, line the Knoxville Convention Center, from big-bucks Silver Age rarities to the most recent back issues—but AdventureCon's scope is wider than that, as indicated by this year's list of celebrity guests: Ray Park, (Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menaceand Snake-Eyes in this summer's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra); David Prowse (Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy); Lou Ferrigno (The Incredible Hulk TV series); Gary Coleman and Todd Bridges from Diff'rent Strokes; pro wrestlers Mike Foley, Christy Hemme and Stephanie Bellars; and a special appearance by the Delorean from Back to the Future.
