As a fellow journalist, I am severely disappointed by this article. I feel this article was a disservice to this band. After past failures with Scipps, and their affiliates, I understand why the Bangs would want to avoid you. Frankly, the fact that an editor let a journalist write about how poorly they managed a story is ridiculous. I would have just scratched this story before publishing your sob fest. You should be writing about the news, not dragging us along in your personal problems. Since Scripps acquired Metro Pulse, it has gone down hill and this is the last straw for me. Sorry Bangs, you have represented Knoxville well and deserve a better story.
You've hit the nail on the head. It's shocking to me that the editor would allow what essentially amounts to an airing of grievances into print, much less make it the week's cover story. It's another huge misstep for a formerly great publication, but one, unfortunately, that is indicative of the growing trend of Scripps' using sensationalist tactics to move copy.
