I want to express my gratitude to the reporter of this story. I too have benefited from the long-term use of antibiotics. I was CDC positive through LabCorp several times and was still told by the IDSA doctor that it was a false positive. I had to seek out a Lyme doctor in a different state. I am so glad I did.
1 1/2 years into treatment, when people ask me now how I feel, my answer is "I'm functioning." I'm not 100% yet, but I can function as a mother and wife again. It's the difference of being able to function as a human being and lying in bed for the remainder of your life requiring others to care for you and carry out your duties. It's demeaning even for those of us so stubborn that we won't allow others to care for us until we are on our death bed.

I always say, it WILL bring a lumberjack to his knees. I could not clean, I could not walk to my mailbox, I crawled from my bed to the bathroom. I could not eat. The chemistry in my brain began to change and my personality began to change with it. I no longer cared if I woke up in the morning due to the physical pain. Being ignored by a large part of the medical community was as painful to me as the physical pain. It's hard to wake up in pain every day and feel as if there are no doctors that care that a once healthy vibrant mother is willing to die because no one can find a cause or treatment and she feels completely useless to those around her. You do start to believe they are better off without the burden you are placing on them. I'm glad I found a doctor who did care and who validated what I was going through and who knew how treat me and has turned my illness around. I cannot express enough how painful this illness is. You cannot possibly imagine the pain until you have been down this road.
