I love the architecture of SJN Parish. Beautiful and inspiring. But I just am having a hard time comprehending the polarizing attitude espoused by Father Dowling regarding architecture's statement about modern Catholic values. Now, he has something of a point, but his statement conveys the situation as black and white, as in, old=good, new=bad. Sorry, it isn't that cut and dry. There are valid reasons to pursue modern architecture, and by doing so in no way is it saying that the ancient traditions of the church are to be trampled upon. By extension, there were valid reasons for Vatican II reform, the Novus Ordo, and everything "new", that some just can't wrap there minds around as being truly "Catholic". Perhaps in the name of tradition we start padding the church coffers buy selling indulgences again? I know, that was harsh, and was a bit off track.....
