Mr. James Lee Burke is indeed a gifted writer, with a soul for the life and people of south Louisiana. Swan Peak is the latest of his series involving the detectives Dave Robicheaux and Clete Purcell.
Paul Lewis is correct about that fading landscape. Burke is one of the best who is recording it in his works. Soon, it will all be gone. Burke's vivid descriptions will help those in the future who wonder what life was like in the mid-1900's in Louisiana (and in Montana).
