We arrived at the pub at 4:25. Seating hadn't begun yet (4:30) and I tried to order a beer. I was refused service because they weren't ready to serve. Fair enough, yet there were about 7 other people drinking at the bar--bad impression.
The restaurant was empty upon our arrival. I asked to be sat for dinner, now that it was 4:32. The hostess made it seem as if I was bothering her by asking for a table, she had to "check and see if there was a table availble." We remained the only patrons in the restaurant for at least 30 minutes upon finally getting a table, by that time we were eating our main course.
The food was excellent, and the beer satisfying. We will try to go back to the gastropub in hopes that the service is more friendly. I'm excited about having a local establishment like this and hope the beer garden is great.
