Cindy Day Studio
She's done lots of graphic design and work with local ad agencies, but Cindy Day's "fascination with the detail of things" is most evident in her watercolors and pen and ink drawings, many available as prints or notecards. She focuses on fine-art pet portraits and paintings with a nature theme, like a canoe bobbing in rich swirls of dark water, or a vintage wood box arrayed with black-eared white rabbits. The artist is as warm as her work, particularly when you get her going on the topic of canines. "I love, love, love dogs," she says, "puppies are my favorite thing in the world. I can't go downtown without petting every dog." One popular watercolor (photo above, available in print or notecards) is "Little Bookworm," featuring her long-haired dachshund, Mason, asleep in her bookshelf next to titles like OId Yeller and The Dog Who Would Be King. "People like that one a lot," she says. "It has a lot of extra love in it. Of course, I also had a good time choosing the appropriate dog theme books to add to the painting." Day's been in the Etsy realm since 2008, but added "a bunch of stuff" about a year ago, and is gearing up to add a bunch more for this Christmas season. She also does commercial works and commissioned portraits.
