I Need Sleep sounds like one of those bands that used to parade out of the pantry on The Young Ones. At first you’re suspicious that the pratfalls are choreographed. Then you decide you don’t care and just fall in behind like a conga line. (Even the band’s photos include innocent passers-by.) INS splits its time and membership between Knoxville and Chicago, and had not long ago gone into hibernation. Then ad hoc leader DL Bergmeier was visited by a muse called mononucleosis. Along with the fever dreams came inspiration and newfound purpose.
You can check them out on MySpace. The sound is percussion-centric, with keys and lyrics that suggest over-caffeination, a dozen or so people on stage, and then more percussion. (Chris Barrett)
