Sound Description

What Christabel and the Jons play isn’t exactly a throwback, at least not to a particular time or place. The bulk of their music is swinging, old-timey torch jazz and an acoustic variation on ragtime, with a little bit of European folk, old country blues, standards, and whatever other pre-World War II stuff you might be able to dig up on old 78 rpm records thrown in for good measure. It’s steeped in a misty, undefined romantic nostalgia, sort of like a twangier, sultrier Norah Jones. Above all, they seem to be looking for elegance. And they seem to have found it.
