Adam Whipple makes a gentle record

A peak at Old Skin Horse

Singer/songwriter Adam Whipple, accompanied by friends and family, shows traces of both contemporary coffeehouse folk and something far older on his new disc, Old Skin Horse. It's a quiet record, with gently strummed guitar and Whipple's hushed voice embellished with organ, piano, fiddle, and trumpet, and impressive, sometimes elaborate, vocal arrangements. As much talent as Whipple shows as a songwriter, however, the stand-out track is his stark rendition of the hymn "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing," a bright but emotional statement of faith.
